It was a scorching hot sunny Saturday this past weekend as shoppers headed over to Head Lake Park for the annual Trash N Treasures event hosted by Rails End Gallery and Arts Centre on June 18.
Fifty vendors filled the park for what is dubbed Haliburton’s Community Yard Sale, which featured a wide range of collectibles, antiques and miscellaneous items up for grabs including wooden rolling pins, raccoon paintings, teak ice buckets and wicker furniture shaped like a mushroom.
Gallery director Laurie Jones said the event is aimed at raising public awareness of the events and activities Rails End has to celebrate community.
“If you got there early the bargains were spectacular,” Jones told the Echo.
Food was provided by local vendors Into the Blue Bakery, Los Abuelos and Rails End Gallery.
The event also featured its annual butter tart contest, with a line-up for the tart sales forming around noon. Proceeds from the tarts goes towards gallery programming.
This year seven bakers entered the contest, with West Guilford resident Vicki Sisson taking top prize! Second place was awarded to Jones and third to Eleanor Lyle. Prizes were donated by local businesses V&S, Aprons and Soaps and the gallery.
Trash N Treasures will return to Head Lake Park on June 17, 2017.
