All of the candidates to represent Haliburton County on the national stage have confirmed attendance for the first debate in the Highlands to take place Monday, Sept. 21.
Jim Blake will moderate the discussion involving candidates William MacCallum (Green Party), David Marquis (Liberal), Mike Perry (NDP) and Jamie Schmale (Conservative) in the ballroom at Pinestone Resort and Conference Centre from 7 to 9 p.m.
The local chapter of CARP is hosting the event in co-operation with the chamber of commerce.
CARP president Bob Stinson said his organization will submit six questions to the candidates and that anyone from the community who wants to pose a question is welcome to do so.
Attendees can submit questions ahead of time or can pose one at the event.
“We’re certainly not aiming this all-candidates meeting in a specific direction,” Stinson said, noting that CARP puts in the effort of running the event because it benefits the members to have a chance to meet the candidates.
The event is being sponsored by the Retired Teachers of Ontario.
