The Sears stores in Haliburton County – the appliance and furniture store in Haliburton and the catalogue pickup company in Minden – are not affected by the widespead closures and layoffs that Sears Canada announced last week.
“The biggest thing I want to put out there, is we’re not going anywhere,” Adrian Vargas, who owns the Sears store in Haliburton, told the paper.
The same goes for the Sears catalogue pickup depot in Minden, where owner Rawnie Moore said she is continuing to operate.
Sears announced June 22 that it will close 59 stores across Canada, laying off approximately 2,900 workers.
That day the company was granted protection from its creditors and its stocks were halted as it undergoes a restructuring. The store closures represent about a third of the company’s total retail contingent in Canada.
Vargas stresses that in Haliburton County, it’s business as usual.
“We are very much open,” he said.
