An anonymous donor is about to help Mike “Hot Wheels” Bachynski stay mobile.
A call was placed last week to Jeff Strano, husband of Andrea Strano, who has been organizing the GoFundMe page rallying the community to raise money in support of a new mobility scooter for Bachynski, a Haliburton resident.
To date, about $2,800 minus GoFundMe administrative fees has been raised of the $4,000 goal set by Andrea. The mobility scooter that replaces the one nearing the end of service that Bachynski currently uses will cost $4,500.
After the Haliburton Echo published a story last week about Bachynski’s efforts to help fund the necessary device, an interested reader reached out to the Stranos to get involved.
Should the community raise $3,000 (after the administrative fee), the anonymous donor, who is known to Jeff and Andrea, will pay for the remainder of the scooter to a maximum of $5,000. Any money raised that exceeds the goal will help with future repairs of the new scooter, Andrea told the paper.
Community groups and service clubs as well as individual contributors have been instrumental in raising funds for the campaign, which has been active since March 12. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/lets-help-mike-get-a-new-scooter.
