Highlands East extends due dates on property tax
Responding to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Municipality of Highlands East will defer interest and penalties for non-payment of property tax until May 1, 2020.
The municipality encourages account holders to pay via cheque or money order using the drop off box/mail slot at the Wilberforce municipal office (make sure payment is sealed and remittance slip is contained - do not enclose cash); mailing the cheque or money order and remittance slip; using telephone banking or direct deposit through the bank branch or online banking; or using online credit card payment.
The municipality has also limited the days and hours its two municipal water taps will be open. Beginning Wednesday, March 25, the Gooderham public water tap will be open Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Wilberforce tap will be open Saturdays between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and Wednesdays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Call the environment department with questions or concerns at 613-339-2442.
Cash is not accepted at the landfills and users will be invoiced via mail for any tipping fees. This allows staff to practise social distancing. Staff will collect the user's name, address, and licence plate number for invoicing. Call the environment department at the number above for questions or concerns.
