UPDATE: Power has been restored to most residences in the Gooderham area, leading Highlands East to close the Gooderham community centre on Jan. 24. Water can still be obtained at the Gooderham municipal offices.
Those with emergencies should call 911. Anyone requiring assistance can call acting fire chief Chris Baughman at 705-455-2747.
The municipality of Highlands East will be opening the Robert McCausland Memorial Community Centre on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. for those without heat and hydro. Freezing rain caused thousands of people in the Haliburton Highlands to lose power Tuesday morning, with Hydro One estimating some may be without electricity until Thursday.
Some of those without power are in the Glamorgan area of Highlands East, which prompted the municipality to issue the following press release:
Due to Hydro Outages in the Glamorgan Ward, the Robert McCausland Memorial Community Centre will be opened at 6 pm January 23, 2018 for individuals that are without heat and hydro. Water can be obtained at the following locations:
Gooderham Municipal Office – 1032 Gooderham Street, Gooderham
Robert McCausland Memorial Centre – 1043 Community Centre Road, Gooderham - 705-447-2410
Please exercise caution using alternative heating, cooking and backup power sources. Do not operate equipment and/or devices inside that are meant for outside use only. Make sure all smoke and CO alarms are working.
If you have an emergency, please call 911.
If you require assistance, please contact Acting Fire Chief, Chris Baughman 705-455-2747.
NOTE: In the event power is restored, the Community Centre will not open.
