Dysart gets year of birthday celebrations started

By Angelica Ingram

Jan. 10, 2017

The Guinness Book of World Records states that the oldest person to ever live reached 122 years, however, on Saturday, Jan. 7, the municipality of Dysart et al surpassed that number with a birthday party celebrating 150 years.

The township was incorporated in 1867 and its first council meeting was Jan. 7 of that year.

The winter party kicked off a year of events in honour of the milestone, with food, beer, music, a movie and more at the A. J. LaRue arena this past weekend.

A historical film created by Haliburton’s Kim Emmerson was debuted at the event, showcasing some of the landmarks in England that are tied to Haliburton’s past.

Hundreds were entertained by a fire show put on by renowned entertainer Brant Matthews from Toronto.

Festivities will continue on throughout 2017, with a big party planned in July.
