Call for nominations: Canada 150 Awards
Local MP Jamie Schmale is asking for nominations of those who should be recognized for their contributions to the riding for Canada 150 Awards.
These awards will be given out in July from individuals in 15 categories that encompass most sectors of the community.
Schmale said in a press release that the awards were created despite the federal government choosing not to do its own awards corresponding with Confederation, which he said has happened in 1867, 1927, 1967 and 1992.
“Unfortunately, the Liberal government decided not to issue a commemorative medal in 2017 to mark Canada's 150th, however I believe this is an important tradition that I felt should be continued,” he said in the release.
Nominations are open to all residents of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock and are due by June 9. You can find the application form at jamieschmale.ca or pick one up at the constituency office in Lindsay (68 McLaughlin Rd.). Applications require at least two reference letters and a sponsor.
