Who needs to go to the zoo when the zoo can come right to you?
Animals of all shapes and sizes were on display at the Bob McCausland Community Centre in Gooderham on July 23 as part of a summer adventure day camp, organized through Point in Time.
Facilitated by Zoo to You, an animal education program, the presentation included Bert the hedgehog, Archie the American alligator, Thomas the African spurred tortoise, Buckley the bearded dragon and Lucy the chinchilla, to name a few.
As the individual animals were being shown throughout the room demonstrator Matt Wood explained and described the unique characteristics attributed to each species.
The animals equally displayed their personalities throughout the presentation, whether it was the nervous temperament of Lucy, the lazy attitude of Buckley or the overly hyper flying squirrel named Joey.
The children's faces were full of smiles for the duration of the afternoon, except for one brief moment when Buckley picked up his pace and began sprinting toward the audience's feet, resulting in shrieks of surprise and excitement.
Organized by Point in Time Children and Family Services, the adventure day camps will continue to run for four more weeks with spaces still available. Facilitated throughout Haliburton County, the camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes activities such as fire hall visits and bowling. For enrollment information visit www.pointintime.ca.
