Whether it is music, acting, dancing or talent in sports, it is hard to get noticed in the big leagues when one grows up in a small rural town. But in the last month, a local high school student, Matt McDermott, better known as the rapper "Boostalk," was given the chance to drink from the cup of fame.

He began rapping at the age of 14, and has made multiple videos of himself over the last few years, posting them on Facebook for friends and family to see.

"I just rap for fun. It was never planned to be some sort of dream of mine. But now it could be," Matt said

Bored one day, Matt decided to put together a collaboration of random lyrics and make it into a music video, complete with an editing budget of $50. Forty-eight hours after posting the music video of him, "We Gon Rock," on the website YouTube he received 300,000-plus hits and a chance to sign a contract with Urban Smoke Records (USR). He was found on television four days after the release of the video on an episode of Attack of The Show, Around The Net series, which is a popular television show on G4TV.com.

The next day Boostalk was 76th most Googled around the world.

"I was surprised at the sudden fame. There's not much to say to that. It was all a shock," Matt says.

Though his fame was sudden his parents aren't blowing it over the top. As Matt says,

"They're just doing what most parents do. Trying to keep me happy and being there when I need them. They give a lot of support."

Matt was previously working with Urban Smoke Records before the video was released, but after the boost in fame they decided to sign him as the first person on USR.

"They're helping me on improving my skills and organization assessments. They set me up with meetings, beats, software, etc. I've also got a website www.boostalk.com with a clothing line under USR's name."

Boostalk admitted that the lyrics in "We Gon Rock" have no real meaning behind them, but his other pieces he's written do.

"My lyrics let people know that if you stand by a goal and not give up, you can get any place you want in life, as long as you want that. I just kept at it. I wrote stuff down on a piece of paper then made it into a song. I never gave up and now look where I am at."

Though he says he has no influences he knows he has a great supporter.

"My girlfriend has always been there for me since the day we met," Matt said. "She has never given up on me once. She likes how I'm trying to do new and different things that no one tries to attempt."

To fans of Boostalk, a new video is in the making and coming soon, his new album Ca$h Flo. With all this going on Matt still attends school and continues to work hard at making his new stuff bigger and better. But is this the beginning, or the short-lived end of Boostalk?

"You will never know where you'll end up," Matt says. "I'll just have to wait and see and hope for the best. That's pretty much all I can do."
