Man crashes SUV into Pine Lake 0

By Chad Ingram

A West Guilford man is safe after crashing his SUV, boat trailer and boat into Pine Lake on the afternoon of Oct. 9.

Bill Reynolds was at his Nila Road home at about 2:45 p.m. when a neighbour of his came running frantically, yelling for help.

“My neighbour said, ‘I heard this crash,’” Reynolds said, explaining another Nila Road resident, a man is his 80s, had crashed his vehicle several metres down a steep slope and into the lake.

It was overturned with the boat and trailer on top.

Gary Collins was in the neighbourhood helping to stack wood and rushed across the road and down the slope.

“I heard him beeping his horn,” Collins said. “I jumped in the water.”

The man seemed to be OK.

“I asked him if his leg was pinned or anything,” Collins said. “He was calm, cool and collected.”

Collins was able to force the door open and pull the man out while Reynolds called 911.

EMS and fire department personnel arrived shortly after and the OPP said the man sustained no serious injuries.

Police said it is unlikely charges will be laid.
