A colourful new book features the work and bios of 30 area artists.
Artists of Algonquin, a 72-page hardcover put together by graphic designer Andrea Hillo, was celebrated at the Rails End Gallery on Sept. 22.
“It was a book idea I had a few years ago,” Hillo said, adding she wanted to create something of quality that would really draw attention to the art and the artists themselves.
Each of the artists gets a two page-spread, along with a short biography.
The book was edited by former Echo publisher Len Pizzey and contains a forward by famed painter and one-time county cottager Robert Bateman.
Bateman got involved through artist Linda Sorensen, who is featured in the book.
“He taught her and just thought she was a real star,” Hillo said, who added she hopes the book helps boost sales for those featured.
“I would feel successful if each artist sold a work through the book,” she said, adding she was pleased with the final product. “I was just thrilled with the whole thing.”
She’s contemplating embarking on a similar project in another area.
Artists of Algonquin is available at 30 locations or can be ordered by going to www.artistsofalgonquin.ca.
