Fire restrictions lifted in Algonquin Park 0

Increased rain has prompted the Ontario government to lift the "restricted fire zone" in Algonquin Park.

As of midnight Thursday, Aug. 9, the provincial park again allowed campfires for cooking and warmth.

Extreme dry conditions had led to the restrictions, which were imposed July 18.

The province reminds campers and other visitors to the park that campfires should still be kept small and should never be unattended.

"Always ensure fires are put out before leaving the site by drowning your fire, stirring the ashes with a stick to uncover hot coals and then drowning it again," a statement on the province's website reads.
