Haliburton resident Michael Barnes will be given another honour this year for his public service.
The prolific writer received an official invitation to Roy Thomson Hall to be presented with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Barnes received the invitation May 29 and will be awarded June 18.
Already a member of the Order of Canada, Barnes said his writing on Ontario history and industry and his public service garnered him this special distinction.
"It gives you a thrill," Barnes said of his most recent honour.
He was given the Order of Canada in 1995.
Barnes's most recent book is Northern Ontario: Introducing the Unknown Country and he has written four books featuring the Haliburton Highlands.
